As most of you know, today involved fun with body painting. Robots! Scaly things! Neurons! Oh My!

The spirit of Harkness

Robot Love
(Both photos courtesy of Ma'ayan)

Yesterday I spent most of the night in Harkness and it was exactly how I wanted to spend my Friday night.  Watched a movie with Kat.  Attempted a sleepover in the Harkness lounge.  Realized little or no sleeping would actually take place and finally went to my own bed around 5.

Played soccer today. Yitka, Andrew, and Timmy were there too.  The rest were an assorted bunch of everyone from 30 something townies to high schoolers to Oberlin professors.  I am no good at it, but I had such a blast. I am doing it again on Sunday @ 6pm. I felt like such a bad ass walking in to the Fev in our athletic gear all sweaty and gross.

If you are at all interested in playing, please come.  You don't actually have to be good.

Put iTunes on shuffle.  Not sure if this is before your generation, but do any of you remember bewitched?  Ya, they make up a fair amount of my memories of fourth grade.

Here are some lyrics to refresh your memory:
"Hey boy, sittin' in your tree, mommy always want you to come for tea.
Don't be shy; straighten up your tie; come down from your tree out in the sky

I wanna know, just what you do; is it very big, is their room for two?
I've got a house with windows and doors; I'll show you mine if you show me yours.....
...........
Play with the girls, play with the boys, do you ever get lonely playin' with your toys?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLt_g3W57gs&feature=related

Yes, these are the lyrics we, or at least I, listened to as a child.  Wow.  No even subtle.  Then again, I am pretty sure I never really thought about stuff like that in fourth grade.  I was far more preoccupied with beating boys in basketball, beating girls in poker, and rolling my eyes at the dumb make-believe games my friends still wanted to play.  I was a realist.

Random internet videos I find worthwhile:

long amusing rant about a pen in Jamaican Patois: (if you don't have patience for the whole thing, watch the first and last 30 seconds.)

Been working a lot this week, but it's been good.  I like the late hours by myself copying things.  I go through old year books, drink tea, read my book, and play around in the wheely chairs.

(Tank Chair.  Superior to all other chairs.
Okay, office chairs, not this cool.  However, when old age hits, this baby is so mine).

(They are that best....can you spot the hidden advertising?)

You know those days where you feel kind of grumpy, sleep deprived, and sick?  The days when social interaction really isn't your cup of tea, and you'd far prefer an actual cup of tea, a comfy bed, and maybe a nerdy book about language?  That was yesterday.  That was yesterday and yesterday was pleasant hour.  Needless to say this did not happen. *****THIS IS NO ONE'S FAULT*****.  I think I just need to find somewhere quite and peaceful I can go after a long day at work on Fridays.  Pleasant hour is much nicer when it is not obligatory.

Erika- you are awesome, thanks a bunch.

This morning my friend Meredith came into town.  She was passing through on the way to her family reunion.  I ate breakfast with her and her parents.  Pancakes.  They even paid.  Really, what more could a girl ask for.

p.s. If you do not know this girl, you should; she is amazing.  We met at the alumni luncheon.  Her parents met each other in South.

p.p.s. you know, for a gaythiest, I have a surprising number of straight catholic friends.

I might try and get some more sleep before catering.  I think we have the cool boss again, fingers crossed.

EDIT: had cool boss!  Unfortunately, no dancing for me (except  a little while carrying my tray or sweeping the floor).  But, wedding was pretty good considering.  There was cake, followed later by storytime.

and now presenting....sleep

Day before yesterday watched the 2-hour firefly pilot.  Oh dear, I may be getting hooked.

Yesterday was filled with a lot of awesome and cuteness.

I saw a couple riding a single-seater bike together; the wife was sitting on the handlebars.  They were probably in their late 60's and still flirting like they were a new item.  It made me ridiculously happy.

I talked to my mother.  Looks like the plan if for me to go home from Saturday the 12th until following Sunday the 20th.
Is there anything super awesome I will be missing if I go then?  Frequent flyer miles are a beautiful thing.  I don't have to feel bad for an expensive last minute flight.

EDIT:  Oops, was looking at July instead of August.  I meant Saturday the 9th, through Sunday the 17th (I think that's right).

Catered a wedding.  Surprisingly, not a regrettable way to spend a Saturday night. The entire night everyone was ridiculously friendly and polite.

Leah masterfully picked the downstairs bathroom lock.  Yeah, shower!  Yeah, toothbrush!

Went to Catherine's Southern Banquet.  I have a strange fondess for collard greens and black eyed peas.  I think I could eat that everyday.  I was impressed that they managed to make southern food vegan...and you know, good too.

Harris introduced me to firefly...and I, supringly, didn't hate it.  In fact I think I even liked it.  Though I prefered the awesome internet advetised three episode series done by the same writer (I think it's called Dr. Horrible?).  Emo dorky supervillan musicals- need I say more.  Nerd points are on the rise.

Just found out crazy massive project at work is, in fact, to be mailed out on the 19th of AUGUST, not July.  Phew.  My boss got a good kick out of the date misunderstanding.

Good new is, now I have basically nothing to do at work until my boss gets out of her conference calls...in a few hours.  Ergo, livejournal.

Don't ever try and go anywhere in Ohio on a Sunday, just don't do it.  I should know better.
The cab companies are closed, you can't purchase bus tickets anywhere in this half of the state except M-Fing Toledo, not even in cash, the trains only run between 1 and 4 am from elyria to sandusky, and the LCT has no transfer point to eerie county.
Figures
To sum it all up, getting to Cedar Point failed....busman- why won't you take my money and let me on your bus?
Sorry, Flora, I tried.  It would have been really cool to see you.  I guess i'll just have to find a way to visit you at Sweet Briar next year instead (may have spelled that wrong).

So all this travel confusion resulted in me spending half of the day stuck in Elyria.  Yitka was awesome and dropped me off and Ivy was awesome and picked me up.  Thank you both for attempting to facilitate a cool trip/save me from waiting another billion hours from the LCT.

In:

elisa will be here this weekend.

aaron walker is temporarily living with me.  He may end up renting one of the rooms here and staying for a while.  We are planning on having some version of Pleasant Hour.  More information on this coming soon.  All of you who are here or near this summer are invited.

Ivan is to come back shortly, I am hoping that he will move upstairs largely because he and leah and frolic together undisturbed and because they will no longer me dissatisfied with their floor of separation (don't blame the, but I want the cold and lovely basement room, even if it's the smallest).

My friend Jessica Tingle is coming to visit (yes, she does have the best porn star name ever).  She is brilliant and off to Cornell for engineering in the fall.  She will be staying for at least a week and hopefully bringing along one of her friends from home or her boyfriend Gabriel as well.

Out:
sean lucious (horribly spelled I'm sure) is leaving for the summer this weekend.  lame, very lame.

I am aware that I do not capitalize regularly.  Fuck It.

p.s. had a job interview today.  it went well (crossed-fingers)

is it weird that am I so excited about a potential filling job? that the number of files in their cabinets actually impresses me?  to caress each sexy alumni....stop..okay, but it's air-conditioned.

I do actually think it would be a cool job...(files, come to me now).

Collin, the boy that made high school bearable, called me yesterday.  Granted, I finally got up the balls to call him first, but him calling me back is a big deal.  We haven't talked since October break for technical and other reasons.  He stopped checking his facebook because I was the only person he would talk to on it.  My AIM doesn't work.  He doesn't do phone.
It's hard.

Point being, It had been a long time.  It was really, really nice to hear from him.  He doesn't believe me, but he would do well at Oberlin.  However, the neoliberalism might drive him a little bonkers.

Had fun hanging out with Natalie and Kurt and then went to the house where Catherine, Benny, Molly, and a bunch of other people are living.  I ate cake, played taboo, and set off fireworks at Jess Cumming's birthday celebration.

Saw Jenny Saladik for the first time in a while.  The same day Sean, my housemate, introduced me to kill bill.  dear god, what a wonderful movie.  Who but Uma Thurman could possibly be bad ass enough to will herself out of being a paraplegic?

Watched Blue Velvet with Aries and then spent a full day making dulce de leche.
Blue velvet was horrific.  It made sex sound horribly unappealing.  However, the dulce de leche was delicious.  Commenting on the most horrendous aspects of the movie with Aries was pretty fun too.  Aries also cleaned my kitchen, which was sweet, but way way too nice of her.  Thank you Aries.

As a random side note....my, of the cat formerly known as my cat, had an abortion and got spayed.  The abortion is sad because I don't see it as entirely necessary.  However, it is a very good thing that she got spayed.  They kind of did a shit job, so I hope she heals okay.  I might take her to another vet to get them to look at it .

Also, Ivy introduced me to Garfield without Garfield comics:
http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/page/4
good for a momentary laugh.  It is Garfield with all of Garfield's lines removed, making john look rather like the pathetic lonely middle aged man he is.  Like this one entry from May 22nd:

there's also dysfunctional family circus:

Does Daddy know you're a lesbian?

or this one:

Don't feel too bad, Daddy. It happens to all men sometimes.
