This weekend is great, it is exactly what I needed. I needed a reminder that I do indeed have friends outside of Oberlin, and that they are great people. Yes, I do need to do work, but I craved Kentucky. Like when you were little and you got sick, then felt better and wanted to play outside, but your mother told you that you had to stay inside until your fever was complete gone. Homework is the last little inch of that Oberlin fever I've been having, and being here for Thanksgiving is like being old enough to know better and the diving head first into the swimming pool. Feels good. Jessica's mom cooks her traditional and Thanksgiving lunch. The family eats in casual attire, her mom is still wearing sweat pants after cooking a gigantic meal. I like that. After a break for our over-filled stomachs and a romp outdoors in the beautiful and sunny 50 degree weather, Jessica and I come back in for Derby Pie, a fantastic and delicious Kentucky original (and perhaps the only kind of pie I really like). (not really like either picture of course) After pie, Jessica, her girly younger sister, her now-two-inches-taller-than-me younger brother, her adorable and quirky mother, and her humorous father all get into there car and head to jessica's mother's parents' house. I assumed no one would remember me since It was a few hour period a year ago. Yet, every person I met on the way to the door at least vaguely remembered me from last year and gave me a gigantic hug. When I went inside, the entire poker table stopped their game and all gave a gigantic groan. Their grandfather said something like, "Oh no, it's you again". You see last year I had beaten them at poker, badly. They play for money. I bought myself a fancy "Burbon Ball French Toast" the following day with the money I made- paid all in quarters. This year I didn't fair as lucky; I came out about even. However, I love playing poker with Jessica's outlandish relatives. Her grandparents are not like stereotypical grandparents. Her grandfather was drunk and lively and cracking ridiculous jokes with his thick Kentucky accent- from bad poker jokes to dirty jokes. I was thoroughly entertained. For my Anthro. class I have to go out and take field notes on an activity/event. This activity should ideally be something I can participate in and something that is brand new for me. I am hoping to use this as a chance to explore all the awesome things Oberlin has to offer that I never get to taken advantage of. Any suggestions? Tags: anthro., suggestions

Das Leben- La vida- Life I feel as though it is most accurately articulated in all three languages, since I spend so much of my time speaking in German (bad German that is intermixed with English and Spanish). Harkness- I loved you, we had a good thing going. But, you kept me up all night, you infested my lungs with smoke 24/7, and you prevented me from doing any work ever. Seriously, this thing has gotta end. Next semester I am getting a single, damn it, and living elsewhere. I will miss walking down a floor to the kitchen in my pjs. I have been lacking in sleep, overwhelmed by school, constantly behind due to a prolonged minor yet bothersome illness, but I am the happiest I have been in a long time. Natalia is amazing. I am so lucky guys, seriously. The other night we stayed up nearly all night to make things for our special meal together. We listened to 90's music, dancing around the kitchen, and just spending time together. We both can't stop smiling whenever we're around each other. She makes me so happy. Friends- we only study together or briefly accomplish key talking points, not real hanging out. I've never been good at facilitating good quick interactions without context. (but better than the "Fine....ya.....cool....uh-huh" people). 90% of my social action since saturday morning can be summarized by the following: "german german german I miss you library crest toothpaste is pure sugar (cringe face). german She seemed really committed to the position, but I think they are all good candidates. sleep- need it german hey, how is that boy/girl of yours? ya- we should hang out more! sign language, sign language- book hand off? literacy class german german psych er-maybe i'll see you there, but I don't think I have time. german german Wow, that sucks feel better hang in there good luck don't die der Kugelschreiber" On a completely different note, I am going to do way more work than I need to for my private reading because it is so freakin' cool. God damn I love that class. I am now Education Committee Representative. The means that I: 1.educate people about OSCA and 2. organize all OSCA pizza night. I think most of the rest of my shifts will be breakfast shifts. However, if any of you lovely folks can bring yourself to get up early enough, let me know ahead of time and I will make extra-awesome food (say, french toast and smoothies?). Additional note- I am not the best vegan cook-especially with breakfast-friendly food. Any helpful vegan breakfast suggestions? Been reading online newspaper articles from El Salvador. Also been reading Into The Pink: An Oral History of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual students at Oberlin College from 1937-1991. Had a really good conversation with my mom. Yes, this is cheesy and we've never really be a girlmore girls-esque mother-daughter set, but when we do get along, it is pretty damn amazing. She told me cool stories about inspirational people and suggested and awesome idea to take what I am already doing and allow me to get paid and call it a winter term project. I am excited for LA. Parents may follow me back here and meet people and help me move in. Stay tuned. I've read up on all the independent major guidelines. I'm seriously gonna do it guys. Dear IM Committee, I love you. Can I have your consent? xxx ~Susan City Councilman David Ashenhurst is pretty cool. Tags: cool people, eddie izzard reference #116, el salvador, gay, independent major, mom, readin'
